Conceived in the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic, My Viking Lady of the Lake continues Glenn Sigurdson's exploration of the people and places of Lake Winnipeg since the arrival of the Icelandic immigrants to those shores in 1875, a mission begun in Vikings on a Prairie Ocean. Rich narratives, accompanied by unique archival photographs, reveal timeless truths around which people and communities are built, opening a window on a unique people, place, and time little known in Canadian history. The stories touch on themes of respect, relationships, reconciliation, and resilience. Glenn invites readers to draw inspiration from these while working through their own changes and challenges arising from the pandemic. The book takes its name from the dramatic story of his great-grandparents as they lived through the forces, events, successes, and setbacks that took them from Iceland and continued on the shores of Lake Winnipeg, including the agony of their teenage son Johannes' dying days, one of four children taken by tuberculosis between 1900 and 1910.
