One of Australia's best known poets, Judith Wright, brings together for the first time a selection of twenty-one essays. Her messages about our need to preserve Aboriginal culture and care for the land run through them all.

When her work for the Aboriginal Treaty Committee came to an end in 1985, with the publication of We Call for a Treaty, Judith Wright, along with other committee members, made a promise to do what she could to keep the issue of justice for Aboriginal people alive. Born of the Conquerors is a further attempt to fulfil her promise, highlighting her strong concerns for the survival of Aboriginal culture and the environment.
