Sociological theories are used here in this work of literary criticsim which explores Aran and Dublin in the works of Máirtín Ó Direáin. According to Ní Riain, it is the unique modernity of the poet's voice that gives Ó Direáin his individualism in settling into city life. Therefore the book is an exploration of Ó Direáin's self-creation as a poet and of the poetic language developed by him.
