„IF‟ is a poem which talks about stoicism, which means self control and self discipline. Stoicism also means the capacity to remain cool and calm even during testing times. This poem is addressed by Kipling to his son. The poet lists out the tough conditions his son has to endure to become a Man.

The first advice the poet gives his son is that even when all others are losing their temper and blame him he should not lose his temper. He should keep his head as cool as a cucumber. When all others do not have trust in him, the son should trust himself, he should also respect the people who had doubts on him. The poet advices his son that even when there is a situation to tell a lie and escape a situation, he should not tell a lie. He should wait for truth to triumph. When people around him hate him, it is not good that he too hates them. The son should
