هي رواية تاريخية غرامية لجُرجي زيدان, تدخل ضمن سلسلة روايات تاريخ الإسلام. يتناول فيها زيدان الوقائع التاريخية التي رافقت مسيرة حياة الحجاج بن يوسف تلك الشخصية التي أطبقت شهرتها الآفاق، حتى ضرب بها المثل في البطش، فقد كان للحجاج مواقف وأعمال لا يزال يذكرها التاريخ. تطرقت الرواية إلى عدة أحداث مثل ظهور الخلافة الأموية والحروب التي قامت على إثرها في عهد الخليفة عبد الملك بن مروان ، حيث تضمنت القصة حصار مكة على عهد عبد الله بن الزبير وفتحها ومقتله الذي أدى إلى خلافة عبد الملك بن مروان واصفاً من خلال السرديات مشاهد لمكة والمدينة‘ كلّ ذلك من خلال قصة حب بين شخصيتين في الرواية هما (حسن وسمية) تلك القصة التي تحكي الحب والعفة ، المعاناة والخوف ثم الفرح والانتصار. ورد في الرواية كثيرًا من أخبار شخصيات ذاك الزمان مثل : ليلي الأخيلية ، توبة ، جميل ، بثينة ، سكينة بنت الحسين ، رملة بنت الزبير ، جرير ، الفرزدق ، ابن كثير ، حكام بني أميّة ، رجال بنو ثقيف آل علي رضي الله عنه ، وآل العوَّام رضي اللّه عنهم جميعًا . |It is a historical love novel by Jurji Zaidan, which is included in the series of novels on the history of Islam. In it, Zaidan deals with the historical facts that accompanied the life of Al-Hajjaj bin Youssef, that personality whose fame spread horizons, until he set an example of oppression. The pilgrims had attitudes and deeds that history still remembers. The novel touched on several events such as the emergence of the Umayyad Caliphate and the wars that took place during the reign of Caliph Abd al-Malik Ibn Marwan. All this through a love story between two characters in the novel (Hassan and Somaya), that story that tells of love and chastity, suffering and fear, then joy and victory. In the novel, there are many stories of personalities of that time, such as: Laila Al-Akhiliya, Tawba, Jamil, Buthaina, Sakina bint Al-Hussein, Ramlah bint Al-Zubayr, Jarir, Al-Farazdaq, Ibn Kathir, the Umayyad rulers, the men of Banu Thaqif Al Ali, may God be pleased with him, and the Al-Awwam family.
