Raskin, a long-term critic of the Electoral College system, gives an unmistakable and critical admonition for the future of America's democracy, which he says is in a "questionable and dangerous place" after the Jan. 6 attack.

A rising legal star, Thomas Bloom Raskin died at 25 years old. Raskin's book opens in the profundities of loss and depression, followed days after the fact by the destructive Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. State house. Raskin and his family members were trapped during the attack.

Raskin was ushered away from the chamber, while his daughter and son in-law went under a work area to hide in House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer's office.
