Sapphyre has always known of her magical abilities, but she is unaware of their origin or how to control them. For the last two winters, she has served ale and food in the Dragon's Flagon. When the dark-skinned stranger Ashcon arrives at the inn, everything changes. Sapphyre joins him in search for Sorenthor - a man who can find the source of her magic.

Their meeting puts ancient prophecies to play. Followers of the dark gods spur into motion, determined to track down and destroy Ashcon and his companions.
