Published just four years after Lord Kitchener's death in 1916, this three-volume biography was written by his private secretary, who had access to all his letters and papers. Volume I spans the fifty years starting with Kitchener's birth in Ireland (1850), his governing of Red Sea territories, his role as commander-in-chief of the Egyptian army, and finally, his service as commander-in-chief during the Boer War.
