In the wake of rapid global development, the green building rating system has been introduced and formed as the foundation for designing, constructing, maintaining and evaluating the green building. By using processes that are environmentally responsible and resourceefficient throughout a building's life cycle as well as creating structures that reflect the application of these processes is what defines the practice of green building or otherwise known as sustainable building. Furthermore, green building forms an integral part of sustainable development under the government's initiative to enhance the quality of life of future gen era tions. This book encompasses numerous pertinent issues within the city and urban development in different contexts but at the same time has similar objectives as green and sustainable development. The book comprises several aspects related to safe cities, greenways, green building development in housing, brownfield, green highway, green steping stone, and material in sustainable concrete, which have all been incorporated into a single book publication - GREEN SAFE CITIES. This is in line with the initiatives enforced by the Government of Malaysia in realising sustainability through the implementation of Local Agenda 21 which will inevitably lead to the enhancement of social well-being and significant improvement in the quality of life in Malaysia.
