What do these people have in common?

  • The CEO of a major global medical imaging firm, who, when informed of the death of a child on a machine made by the company, went for a two-hour walk instead of immediately calling an emergency staff meeting and lawyering up.
  • A successful Silicon Valley founder who shunned the proven venture capital route for fundraising and chose the far easier and less stressful (and less used) crowd-funding path for his fourth venture.
  • A young millennial who lost her job, rushed into another unfulfilling one, and then took a career break.
  • A Dutch entrepreneur who started walking for an hour, letting his mind wander, before every major client pitch.
  • They all leveraged the power of strategic inaction to achieve remarkable results and unexpected wins. So can you!

    Award winning book, IN/ACTION – Rethinking the Path to Results explores the downside of the prevalent cultural bias for action even when it's unnecessary or counter-productive. Capturing insights into the benefits of reflective thinking and strategic inaction, author Jinny Uppal presents a less stressful and more efficient way of achieving more by "doing" less.

    The more ambitious and goal-oriented we are, the more we chase action to achieve desired outcomes, leading to fatigue, burnout, and mistakes. This book offers a counter-intuitive but masterful framework to leveraging thoughtful inaction as a choice to develop clarity in decision-making, leading to remarkable results.

    In this book, you will:

  • learn from stories and insights from author Jinny Uppal's extensive business/life experience and interviews with over 30 successful global professionals;
  • develop a framework on how to leverage reflective thinking and strategic inaction as a choice for better results;
  • discover the role that thoughtful inactivity plays in driving creative thinking and progress through established research.
  • This book is not about slowing down as an end goal or a productivity hack to getting more done in the day. IN/ACTION provides a way to achieve whatever we want without paying the price of nonstop doing.

    This book won the 2021-2022 Gold in Business Nonfiction from Reader Views, SIlver in Personal Growth from Nautilus and Best Book from Book Excellence.

    What readers are saying about this book:

    Richard C. Kane 5-stars

    As someone who has been labeled forever as Type A and action oriented, the very concept that, in many cases, doing nothing wins the day was certainly not top of mind for me. But, I must say that Jinny, in her wonderful book, makes a good case for trying this new (to me) approach. She uses relevant stories from throughout her own life as well as many others to point us to convincing approaches involving choices not to act. One of my favorites described a senior business executive who, in face of a serious business crisis, decided to take a walk alone instead of jumping immediately into the fray. The steps he took following the walk were, no doubt, much better than those he might have chosen if he had acted immediately.

    Ajit Singh 5-stars

    ..Jinny Uppal writes with crisp, biting economy - with an element of surprise built into the arc of every story she tells. Reads like a novel, teaches like a textbook.
