Jawaharlal Nehru; 1889 – 1964 was an Indian anti-colonial nationalist, profane humanist, social democrat and author who was a central figure in Bharat throughout the twentieth century. He was a principal leader of the Indian independence movement. In 1947 Nehru served as India's first prime minister for seventeen years.
