A verse novel of Adelaide. A sonnet for each few minutes of the summer solstice, the longest day and shortest night of the year. Five characters traverse the city, its suburbs and its beaches in this modern midsummer night's dream.
First published in 1994 after being shortlisted for The Australian/Vogel National Literary Award the year prior, Solstice is Matt Rubinstein's first novel. He is also the author of the novels Nomad (1997), A Little Rain on Thursday (2007), Death of the Author (2012), the poetry collection Equinox (2013) and the play Fortinbrasse (2012). He's won an SA Great Award for Special Achievement in the Arts, and in 2012 won the Australian Book Review's Calibre Prize for an essay on copyright and e-books—which led to the establishment of Ligature, the Untapped Collection's publishing partner.
