CDC scientist Dr. Susan Prescott is on a mission to find the Holy Grail of cancer cures, and thinks she's found it in the work of Vladimir Sokolov, a Russian geneticist whose lab was closed during the fall of the Soviet Union. She discovers that Sokolov's re-engineered microbe kills many cancers. Little does she know that the cure holds a deadly secret. By the time Susan discovers it, she's become an accomplice in numerous U.S. Senators becoming infected with the microbe.
