...The siege of Stargard lasted many days with varying success, both sides suffering heavy losses. The Veneti desperately resisted the Saxons who outnumbered them. Thanks to a network of underground passages, they escaped from the city at night in small detachments and tormented the enemies with constant raids.
The Volkolaks did not stand aside either. Astrid managed to persuade Knud and Trude to convene a council, where she spoke about her vision. At the council it was decided to come to the aid of the Lutici, but to act in raids.
The enraged Meister ordered several catapults to fire at the 'winged pagan girls'. But Sirin and Gamayun deftly dodged the deadly shells.
Constant night raids by Volkolaks, the tenacity of the hillfort defenders, and goddess birds hovering over the battlefield significantly weakened the morale of the knights. The archers and infantrymen, recruited from ordinary peasants, townspeople and hunters, grumbled.
It is unknown how long the bloody siege would have continued if one day there had not been a turning point that decided the outcome of the battle.
That day, the invaders again tried to take the rebellious city, despite the desperate resistance of the Veneti. Gamayun and Sirin flew over the battlefield. However, Eir and Magura were forced to remain in Stargard in order to provide assistance to the numerous wounded.
Hogerfest, who had decided at all costs to shoot down the pagan creatures so hated by him, having lost control of himself, shouted in the heat of battle to the mechanics operating the catapults:
"Shoot this flying thing, shoot! We must shoot them down, we must! Otherwise, there is no way to undermine the fighting spirit of the Veneti!"
Finally, the shells that had hitherto been flying at the Vyrajians without success reached their target. A stone from one of the catapults hit Gamayun directly in the chest...
