"The bat hit something. . . standing there with blood gushing from his head was Jimmy. He stared at Ted for just a moment before collapsing onto the ground."

Ted and Jimmy are brothers spending the weekend at their father's house for the first time since their parents' divorce five years earlier. At six years old, Jimmy is excited, but Ted, at fourteen, has some resentment towards his father.

The final day while at the park, Ted's buried anger erupts, and Jimmy ends up in a pool of blood. Ted takes off, trying to run from the shame of what he's done. As a storm approaches, he takes shelter in a dark shed, but as the lightning flashes, he sees someone else. He is not alone in the shed.
