The story is set in the city of San Antonio, Texas in the United States of America, during the time of the 1980s. The protagonist, Dylan Johnson, is a man in his late twenties working as an assistant professor at the Department of Geology, at the University of Texas. After moving from his hometown in Bloomington, he rents an apartment with Blake Walker, who eventually becomes his confidant and a bosom buddy. While Dylan is described as a reticent and timid man highly focused on his work and career and keeping to himself, Blake is his complete opposite, dynamic in nature and a lover boy. After Blake moves out to Arizona to work as an editor in a company, Dylan decides to buy himself a new home in a secluded neighborhood, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. This is when he finds an abandoned house at Alamo Farmsteads, at a very suiting price. He learns that the house was owned by a wealthy brew-owner back in the 1970s and was eventually left abandoned. Dylan finds himself, absolutely alone in the neighborhood as not many people lived around the area, but it suited his very needs for a life away from the crowd and so he begins to make way for adjustments. However, after moving to the house, Dylan finds himself experiencing the most bizarre events. It is in this light that an old old school romance also blossoms between him and his new found companion, Claire Benet.
In his quest for knowing the truth, Dylan encounters unexpected twists and turns until the final culmination leaves him stoned in horror. A tale of crime, history, romance and friendship, this book is worth your time!
