This unit introduces the student to the economic impact of and the contribution of tourism to economies at all levels, and the impact of the local, national and international economy upon tourism. Topics include a basic introduction to economic concepts, patterns of demand for tourism and macro determinants of tourism demand, market structures and the theory of price determination, the economic contribution of tourism both nationally and internationally, tourist-generating and receiving countries, the economic aspects of tourism attractions and the positive and negative economic effects of tourism.

The Study Guide, which has been reviewed and endorsed by CTH, works logically and methodically through the CTH 2010 syllabus, following the syllabus order.

It explains the concepts clearly and provides ample opportunity for practice of the techniques. Chapters start with the objectives and topic list to put the material into context and they conclude with a diagrammatic summary to consolidate learning and a set of self-test questions to test understanding.
