This unit is largely concerned with the analysis of tourism development and planning, focusing on the social, cultural and political features of tourism destinations and how to undertake a destination audit.

Topics include the primary and secondary features of destinations, ranging from land forms to amusements provided for tourists, destination development analysis, social, cultural and political features in destination analysis, destination imagery and branding strategies, destination marketing analysis, destination audits and the future of destinations, including contemporary issues such as eco-tourism.

The Study Guide, which has been reviewed and endorsed by CTH, works logically and methodically through the CTH 2010 syllabus, following the syllabus order.

It explains the concepts clearly and provides ample opportunity for practice of the techniques. Chapters start with the objectives and topic list to put the material into context and they conclude with a diagrammatic summary to consolidate learning and a set of self-test questions to test understanding. The book concludes with a past CTH real exam, forming a full practice exam for students to attempt. A marking guide is also supplied.

The front pages of the Study Guide contain features such as tips on how to study and an explanation of the exam structure.
