When Elizabeth is about to turn sixteen years old she starts to learn different things about her parents and the parties that they were attending throughout the entire time that she was growing up. The first thing that Elizabeth finds out is that her parents had spent quite a bit of their time gambling whenever they would attend the parties that their newest neighbors were having in the hopes of finding a bride for their son Josiah. Sarah and Alexander might have seemed like good people but they were harboring a secret... a secret so terrible that they were moving from one place to another for long periods of time. When Elizabeth finds out that she is expected to marry Josiah her world turns upside down.
