Berlin, 1938. Anna and Max yearn to get married, but their union is prohibited by the Nazis' Nuremberg laws, as Anna is part-Jewish. They visit a fortune teller who can help. Max is skeptical, but he plays the fee. Wheels turn, and Max receives word that his marriage will be authorized by the Gestapo. The Gestapo man at the Department of Ethnics and Racial Affairs agrees to authorize the wedding on condition that Max infiltrates the Communist Resistance - the Red Orchestra - and informs on them. This is an offer that Max cannot refuse, of course. If he is successful Anna will get the wedding of her dreams, but many brave resistance fighters will be captured, tortured and killed...
