A convoy consisting of ten transports, five destroyers, a battleship and two aircraft carriers, entered Melbourne Bay that morning in March 1942. Above the forward masts flew the starry, red-striped flag of the United States.
New forces were arriving in Australia from Los Angeles and San Francisco from California. New contingent of troops destined to counteract the furious onslaught of the Japanese towards the South Pacific Ocean.
