A Hard Rain is the second installment in the plucky apocalyptic Shift trilogy, laced with ironic humor, and accompanied by a great soundtrack. It's been 5 ½ years since the EMPs plunged the industrialized world into darkness. In the Shenandoah Valley, Chris, an obsessive-compulsive, Meredith, a former FBI analyst, and Rita, a reluctant Unitarian prophet, are thrust out of their suburban malaise in order to lead a burgeoning community that stands as a stalwart against the enveloping chaos. Chris and Rita are called to forge into the heart of darkness: suburban Maryland, where they learn that nothing is as it seems. Additionally, they discover a secret previously known only to Meredith that is so potentially devastating that it threatens all of humanity.
