'Craig seems to fully inhabit her fictional world in a manner reminiscent of Daphne du Maurier and provides a sensorial feast for the reader.' (The Scotsman)

Glasgow, 1935: The only child of loving parents, Carrie Burgess enjoys life as the stationmaster's daughter at Partick in Glasgow. Her only problem is her attraction to two very different young men. Ewen Livingstone is an uneducated railway labourer. Railway clerk Matt Campbell is the handsome son of a family which considers itself a cut above everyone else.

Ewen is Carrie's friend. Matt arouses her passions. When tragedy strikes, the appeal of Matt as a husband is to both her heart and her head, but Matt has a dark and violent side to his nature, as Carrie learns to her cost. Soon becoming the mother of two children, she finds herself trapped - although she finds stalwart friends.

The Second World War brings all sorts of changes, allowing Carrie the freedom to take on a job at the station she knows so well. And then Ewen Livingstone walks back into her life...

A heart-warming and uplifting family tale of love, friendship and second chances, one of Maggie Craig's Glasgow & Clydebank Sagas.
