Stress, coping, and prevention are important to understand if we are to have accurate and meaningful depictions of the experience of individuals who participate in educational environments: be they students, teachers, counselors, administrators, parents, or the general public. The development of research in this field of study—from stress, to coping, to prevention— has been an investigative process of continuous refinement and elaboration of complex phenomena. Our efforts in putting together this volume celebrate the possibilities that arise from research and the search for understanding and improving education given theory on stress, coping, and prevention. Indeed, even now new awareness is emerging around discussions of wellness, which suggests a more holistic understanding of the very nature of stress and the necessity for healthy human–stress interactions.
