This volume on opportunity identification, in many ways, links me back to my doctoral dissertation that attempted to relate opportunity identification to entrepreneurial behavior in ways that resulted in structural change in industries. The research in this volume reflects more than two decades of theory development since that time. It also shows that the range of factors linked to opportunity identification has been greatly expanded. While it represents a number of theoretical threads, a reading of the chapters shows a number of common linkages, in addition to their focus on opportunity identification.
