At the initiation of this project, we asked selected colleagues from around the world to submit essays about research into the phenomena of leadership and other social processes of influence in organizations. The research method that would primarily (but not entirely) be employed for this research is grounded theory, or at least derived from the principles of the grounded theory method, which qualitatively analyzes (predominantly) qualitative data to derive explanatory theory. We expected some chapters to be about recent research projects, others to be about the nature of social processes, others about the research process, and others about the implications for practitioners in organizations.
