Over the last 30 years, Tracy Pepe has been developing her superpower – the connection between mental health and our sense of smell. As a perfumer, specializing in essential oils and aromatics chemicals, her career has defined her as a "pioneer", curating various scent solutions to rethink practical synesthesia in architecture and interior design.

Tracy has built dozens of experiential design collaborations with many professionals in both architecture and interior design. Most of her design collaborations explored the idea of sensorial expansion—adding the intertwinement of scent strategy and colour to create newly deepened ways of visitor sensation. Tracy's work answers the question, how to scent a space to impact how we feel.

As a perfumer, Tracy teaches us to re-think how we smell and use aromatic plant materials, essential oils to re-train and how to train one's sense of smell. Her passion for scent is contagious, in her book she demonstrates techniques to help individuals to regain their sense of smell and taste, specifically as it has been lost from COVID -19. The workbook highlights 16 essential oils and or plant material, teaching us over a 20-week period how to train your sense of smell and regain your life. Tracy shares her particular skill, "mind mapping" paired with her years of experience as a perfumer. Her work is dedicated to scent and the connection with various research of how certain scents are being considered for alternative therapy for mental health.

Why the Nose asks the real question: Why are we not considering our sense of smell or the olfaction as a possible solution for some mental illness diagnosis. Tracy candidly discus's olfaction and how scent impacts how we feel. This book takes a scientific direction, connecting the overlooked issue of anomia as it relates to the COVID 19 pandemic.

This book will enlighten your sense of smell, increase your curiosity about olfaction and expand your knowledge on how scent impacts how we feel.
