Sadie was a young Amish woman at the crossroads...She plopped down on the shore and pulled the ring off her finger and held it in her palm. A cool breeze came off the water and blew across her bare arms sending a chill down her spine. She felt more from that breeze than she ever did with Matthew. Sadie pictured his face reflecting off the water, his always-too-sincere smile plastered annoyingly on his face. She knew it wasn't fair, but after a while every time he asked her, "What's wrong, sweetie?" when she was in a bad mood she'd lash out at him because of that stupid smile. He never got angry, which only made her angrier. She wished that just once he would raise his voice, or storm off, or something other than mindlessly smiling at her. All that pent up anger bubbled up in her now as she raised her hand over her head to throw the ring into the water, but before she could do it a hand wrapped itself around her wrist...Did she really want to marry him?
