Según la teoría funcionalista, LA CLASE SERÍA SÓLO UN ASPECTO MÁS DE LA ESTRUCTURA SOCIAL, que además estaría perdiendo importancia en la sociedad moderna, ante la IMPORTANCIA DEL STATUS COMO ELEMENTO PRIMORDIAL DE LA ESTRATIFICACIÓN SOCIAL (TH Marshall).
Las CRITICAS A LOS ESTUDIOS DE LA ESTRATIFICACIÓN se centran en que esta SE TRATA DE SIMPLES DESCRIPCIONES ESTÁTICAS, que conducen a estereotipos, pero que NO SIRVEN PARA COMPRENDER LAS ESTRUCTURAS.
