Wira, a Malaysian noir by Bruce Allsman

Forced to resign from the police force due to bribery, Saiful Abidin bin Abu Bakar now leads a dreary life working as a security guard in a jewelry store. One day when a gang of robbers kidnap his wife and child and demand that he cooperate or they kill his loved ones, he agrees not to stop the robbers when they come to rob the store. The day when the robbers storm the jewelry store, Saiful, however, deliberately shoots to kill the robbers. The newspapers call him a wira, a hero, but his true intention is anything but heroic.
