In 1479, nineteen year old, Ammey McKeaf is beloved and sheltered, not only by her father, the most revered general in the island country of Azulland, but also by five elder brothers, all champions of the games. Her brothers have trained and challenged her all her life, especially at swordsmanship. Trouble stirs when Marko Corin, the ambitious leader of Bellux-Abry, seeks to gain control of the country. Small bands of vicious warriors, known as wolf-packs, reap destruction and death. When senseless slaughter strikes close to home, Ammey is escorted to a place of protective custody, but sanctuary is a thing of the past.

She is rescued from an attack, ironically by famed assassins, Forzenay's Five. Forced to go with the Five to complete their mission, Ammey discovers an inner-strength she did not know she possessed. As she learns the art of survival and assassination from Vincent, one of the Five, an undeniable passion grows between them. She would prefer to remain with the Five or return home to her family, but civil conflict rages and she is swept into unimaginable events. As she battles to survive and protect those around her, she will be tried and tested beyond anything she could have imagined. Her efforts may not be enough to save her and those close to her, but they may well alter the fate of the country.
