The year is 1187 and the Crusader States, called Outremer by the warrior monks known as the Templars, are under threat from Saladin and his 100,000 Abbyubid warriors. Simon Nix and his Templar Brethren ride against them hopelessly outnumbered. They are Annihilated. During the bloody battle Simon loses the Crusader relic that brought them to charge against hopeless odds, and he vows to get it back before Saladin's forces form up outside the walls of Jerusalem.

But there is an evil in Outremer as old as Christianity itself, and it has its sights set on another relic, and Simon must face it head on if he wants to survive and save the people of the Holy land.
