ב־6 באוקטובר 1973 בשעה 16:00 נותק הקשר עם מוצב החרמון, ודגל סוריה הונף על גג "העיניים של המדינה". המוצב, שאיש לא האמין שניתן לכבוש אותו, נפל כמעט ללא קרב. ב־22 באוקטובר בשעה 10:50 שב והתנוסס דגל כחול־לבן, לצד דגל חטיבת גולני, וברשת הקשר נשמע המשפט: "תחנות כל העולם האזינו, החרמון בידי גולני..."
