The feud between the elves and the vampires raged for generations and brought the elven race to the brink of extinction. Dorian is one of the last pureblood elves in existence, and no one knows she exists ... at least that's the way her mentor and guardian, Henry, hopes to keep it. She isn't just any elf ... she is the descendant of a royal line.

Dorian's hope of gaining some freedoms is renewed when Henry agrees to let her join his team and become an investigator. She sees her new career as an opportunity to prove herself and to show Henry she is strong enough and smart enough to take care of herself. As she dives into her first case, her stubborn nature encourages her to take risks that would make Henry cringe.

She meets Cassius, a beautiful and alluring master vampire. Rule number one of being an elf ... never trust a vampire. She quickly finds herself questioning everything she's been taught when she realizes Cassius is nothing like the vampires in the stories she's been told. She finds herself drawn to him in ways she doesn't quite understand, but she is wary. The one creature she was warned to avoid is not as monstrous as she was led to believe.

As she navigates each case, she learns more about her own abilities and discovers how truly detrimental the world can be to the elven people. She begins to realize the kind and trusting nature of the elves has left them vulnerable to those willing to exploit them. She begins to worry that she is like the others ... naïve and blind to the harsh realities of the world.
