The original collection of bedtime stories, Grimms' Fairy Tales marks the first official appearance of timeless characters such as Hansel and Gretel, The Frog Prince, Rapunzel, Snow White, and Rumpelstiltskin in literature. Although these stories were aimed at children, they were often criticized for being too violent for younger readers, especially when the villains ultimately met their end.

Initially called Children's and Household Tales, the brothers Grimm first published their collection of fairy tales in 1812. Linguists and historians Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm gathered stories from their friends and acquaintances in order to preserve the old legends and folklore of Germany. It has since been translated to 106 languages, sharing the magic and wisdom of the tales with children and adults all over the world.
