"When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies? Perhaps to be too practical is madness. To surrender dreams—this may be madness. Too much sanity may be madness—and maddest of all: to see life as it is, and not as it should be!"

Considered to be the world's first modern novel, Miguel de Cervantes' most famous work follows the adventures of a middle-aged man from La Mancha on his quest to become a knight-errant. Becoming obsessed with stories of chivalrous knights, Alonso Quixano sets off on an adventure in pursuit of honor and glory, calling himself Don Quixote de la Mancha. Accompanied by his faithful servant Sancho Panza, the two get into all sorts of misadventures in an attempt to bring order to a chaotic world. One thing remains to be seen—is Don Quixote truly as mad as he appears?

Inspired by the Spanish storytelling tradition—and heavily informed by Cervantes' own life experiences and personal interests—Don Quixote is just as influential over 400 years later as it was on its publication in 1605.
