This book reconsiders and reconstructs patriarchy as a societal system. In particular, the book looks at the social construction of patriarchy which allows it to embed within societies even when those societies are seemingly "developed". The book critiques specific aspects of popular and traditional culture which help to sustain the patriarchal system. In doing so, this book highlights the experiences of those who are outside the higher echelons of patriarchy.
