A kilo of wheat for a day's wages, you think
as people stare at the passing scenery
with their headphones blaring while the apocalypse is transpiring
all around them, no longer needing their eyes to see
or their ears to hear thanks to
ten thousand decapitated heads babbling on digital display
soothing boxcar cattle bound for slaughter
