The term Industry 4.0 is synonymous with a wide range of technological innovations such as the concept of integrating cyber-physical systems, the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence and computerisation of manufacturing operations throughout the supply chain. Leading 'blue chip' manufacturing companies have now embraced this technological revolution and resolved themselves to adopt and implement Industry 4.0 to secure organisational agility, adapt rapidly and respond to changes in customers' demands and deliver high-quality services and products. However, within the construction industry, the adoption of Industry 4.0 and associated concepts and methods has hitherto received scant attention. The disparate pool of Industry 4.0 studies collated in this ebook provides one of the first attempts of its kind to offer a global manifesto specifically devoted to capture the prevailing landscape of research within the construction engineering and management discipline. These studies have been carefully selected, with the aim of furthering knowledge on the topic, provoking broader discussions and raising awareness. Each of the papers focuses on one the various technological innovations which act as the enablers and pillars of Industry 4.0 within modern construction management science and practice.
