Santa Claus today is an international folklore figure, known to young and old.
He is the dominant figure in the celebration of the New Year and Christmas.
His well-known presence in a red suit, white beard, glasses, always smiling with the gifts in the bag is today worldwide the most beloved hero of children on holidays, even in non-Christian countries.
The current form of Santa Claus became popular with the poem "A Visit from St. Nicholas" published in 1823. The visualized version first appeared in Harper's Weekly to 1863. The children's book The Life and Adventures of also participated in the popularity. Santa Claus of 1902. White Rock was a soft drink company that used it in 1915 to sell mineral water and in 1923 gingerbread.
In 1931 the well-known American soft drink company Coca-Cola presented Santa Claus with the company's products with New Year gifts. This ad was so commercially successful that it was to become a sign of its popularity around the world. Its long-term use in Coca-Cola commercials has solidified its appearance, especially red clothes, but it was definitely not its own invention.
Santa Claus, according to tradition, devoted almost his entire life to helping fellow human beings and in world history is considered the inspirer and first creator of organized charity. He died on December 31. On January 1, the day of his funeral, preserved in tradition, it was considered to bring blessing and good luck to the new year.
In the West, the face of Santa Claus has been identified with the story of St. Nicholas, who was famous for his generosity. The peoples of the north have added elements of their own traditions, a culture that accompanies it to this day. In the Greek data, this transformation seems to have taken place in the 1950s-1960s, mainly in the urban population, by the Greek immigrants who, with their greeting cards, introduced the Western Santa Claus.
