Susan Shaw is a respectable woman of forty, living in a village in the north of England. She is married to a good man and has two young children. Unfortunately, she is deep in mourning for her beloved father who died a year ago. She is drinking far too heavily, and this is threatening a once rock-solid marriage and happy family life. Things, however, improve immeasurably when she meets a gentleman who has recently moved into her village. This person, David Wilson, bears a remarkable similarity to her late father. After rescuing him from a frozen river, David becomes a really good friend to Sue and her family. Sue's sister, Sarah, then meets this new friend and becomes convinced that he is some long-lost relative of theirs, especially when her aunt produces a previously unseen photograph taken in 1940, which appears to show both men not long after they were born. Has Sue therefore found a secret long-lost relative whom no-one had ever known about until now; a man has been "found, yet never lost"?
