This is the first book in a series of ten which is set in a forest the lower Andes. Two sisters who are Fancy Rats (Agatha and Simore) get out of their cage and set off for an adventure into the real world. They meet by chance two Chinchillas (Mo & Jose) and become friends. Mo and Jose love doing daring adventures and during these daily trips they are chased by a big dog (Jake) and attacked by foxes. Elaenia (bird) a friend of Mo and Jose tries to keep them on the safe and offers them wisdom.

The series continues with many more adventures and Mo and Jose get partners and have kits. The kits take over the adventures in book three and continue to book 10. Aunts Agatha and Simore dote on the kits and give them love and discipline at the same time. The stories try to instill good manners, behaviour and respect to others. Alexis a human boy is introduced in book 7 who has a disability and has the "gift" to talk to and understand the animals.
