Marines love to get mail. Good old U.S. Post mail. Handwritten. 2003 is the year that Sergeant Leah Ann Sullivan learns about one hell of a story from her past in a series of letters, sent from her grandmother. The letters help ease her routine in the grueling Iraqi desert at her 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, just south of Fallujah, Iraq.

Leah never knew she had such history in her family. The story brings her back to another time. A time when the country was undiscovered and her ancestors had to protect Fort Henry and their colony in the Ohio Valley in the 1700's.

Betty Zane was the girl described in the story, who had to grow up fast on the frontier. She was raised by her brothers. Her older brother, Colonel Ebenezer Zane, taught her how to protect herself, use her instincts, and shoot a long rifle. Then, Betty fell in love with an exciting young man. Their love was immediate and deep. She never stopped loving him, even when she was forced to go to school in Philadelphia. All she wanted to do was to come home and marry Zach Van Swearingham. He was becoming a man. Passionate and bold like her. He was helping her brothers transform Fort Henry into Zanesville. She had to find a way back him.

But the ruthless Shawnee Warrior with the scar on his brow was out to take everything from the Zanes. He found his opportunity with the British Captain Pratt and the American traitor George Girty. They were just as determined. They conspired to take down the Zanes and Fort Henry.

But they threatened the wrong girl.

A girl who was becoming a woman, who loved her man and her country, and would do anything to save them.

The true story of her ancestors stir something within Sergeant Leah Ann Sullivan at just the right time. Her Captain orders her to lead a mission. A "Red Eye Op." Now it is her turn to protect her country. She is about to find out just how damn tough she is. Leah is about to embark on her own journey of self-discovery and intestinal fortitude, and high risk in the dark of the Iraqi desert.

Enter the dark with Leah, into the pitch black night with a team of Marines. An "edge of your seat thriller" Two heroes linked by generations. Two daring missions. A true story, about a female warrior in the past that will forever change who this Marine warrior is in the present.
