Ask architects which Australian magazine they choose to read or to publish their work and the answer is most likely Architecture Australia. If you want to be up to date with the best built works and the issues that matter, then Architecture Australia is for you. Its commissioned contributors are independent, highly respected practitioners, architectural thinkers and design commentators and each article is supported by images from leading architectural photographers. Provocative, informative and engaging – it is the national magazine of the Australian Institute of Architects.
The public and professional value of awards
A chance to pause, reflect, advance • We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognize their continuing connection to land, waters and culture. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.

Year in review: 2020 headlines from ArchitectureAU.com
Leverage: An introduction • Emma Williamson, Kieran Wong, Maryam Gusheh and Justine Clark launch a series of discussions on the idea of “leverage.” Originally planned as face-to-face interviews, these important conversations will now appear over the next few issues of Architecture Australia as a way of maintaining connections and seeking out untapped opportunities for the profession.
Leverage: Better services through design • Mass Design Group operates globally, working with local partners to design projects that are optimized for their sites and that create social value for the long term. Kieran Wong speaks with founding principal and chief design officer Alan Ricks, who is based in Boston, Massachusetts.
Indigenizing practice: To award, or not to award? • In the first of a series of discussions on Indigenizing architectural practice in Australia, Sarah Lynn Rees speaks to practitioners about the place and process of Indigenous awards. The intent of this series is to raise awareness and integrate Indigenous material, conversations and perspectives into the content and themes explored in Architecture Australia.
National Architecture Awards • The inability to undertake physical site visits this year delivered some unexpected outcomes for the jury, including a move to engage with clients and end users as well as the architects. Creative adaptation of existing buildings and places, projects that recalibrate typologies, a deep commitment to social and environmental sustainability, and a strong desire to collaborate came through as distinct themes. Congratulations to this year’s diverse winners.
