In the 1800s, Ned Kelly and the Kelly gang became famous outlaws. Ned and Dan Kelly had spent years stealing to survive and were hounded by police. In 1878, an ecounter with a crooked policeman sent the gang into hiding. The Kelly gang spent two years on the run, finally confronting the police in a bloody shoot-out at Glenrowan Inn. Three of the gang were killed, and Ned was captured and later hanged for his crimes. Althought many argued that they were dangerous criminals, the Kelly gang are famous for standing up to authority and defending the poor.
