Villette - The Original Classic Edition was written by Charlotte Bronte in 1853. This publication is in the English language. After an unspecified family disaster, the main character Lucy Snowe travels to the fictional city of Villette to teach at an all-girls school where she is unwillingly pulled into both adventure and romance. The novels popularity is not for its plot as it is for its accurate expression of Lucy's psychology, particularly Brontë's portrayal of what her protagonist is suffering internally. The narrator and main character of Villette is a twenty-three year old self-reliant, quiet, intelligent young lady. She has, as Miss Ginevra Fanshawe asserts, ‘no attractive accomplishments – no beauty’ and no relations. Though Lucy Snowe is usually reserved and emotionally self-controlled, she also has strong feelings and affections for those she really values. This plays a big role in the story line as she falls in love for the first time with a colleague at the school who is her headmaster. Charlotte Brontë born 21 April 1816 was an English novelist and poet. Charlotte was the eldest of the three Brontë sisters whose novels are English literature standards. She also wrote Jane Eyre under the pen name Currer Bell. Charlotte Brontë taught as a teacher, just like the character in the book, between the years of 1835 to 1838. At the early age of 38 Charlotte Brontë and her unborn child died. Still to this day her legacy lives on through her writings of books and poems.
