These poems are about longing, love, and loss. They were written as a creative response to overwhelming grief after the unexpected death of a man loved. His death broke my heart open and changed the trajectory of my life as a healer and world traveler by once again turning me inward to the subtle sensibilities of what wounds us as well as heals us from the inside, out.
Buried within this ten year period of loss and grief came an equally powerful realization. I was learning to properly love one truly sweet, kind, vulnerable and deliciously available and open soul but this man wasn't meant to be the love of my life. Instead, our mutual love opened the door to love I habitually turned away from — refusing to love myself.
These poems are about finding my way out of this maze of polarized choices: give or take, good or bad, up or down, right or wrong, light or dark, even the seeming real polarity of life or death.
Love has many faces. One of these is the face we see in the mirror: be this mirror glass, clear water, or the eyes of another who sees us, at times, more clearly than we see ourselves.
