Lucy Davison becomes a mail-order bride with 99 other brides headed for Seattle in the Washington Territory. The Civil War has depleted the availability of marriageable men in New Bedford. One of the men who comes to bring the women to Seattle is Drew Talbot. When Lucy meets Drew, lightning travels her body at their touch. The problem is that whenever Drew is around, Lucy suddenly becomes totally graceless and usually end up in Drew's arms. She believes all her dreams are coming true when she is courted and becomes engaged to the man she loves.
Then she is kidnapped by Harvey Long after witnessing his murder of another bride. He takes Lucy and brutalizes her, making everyone believe the worst. With her reputation in tatters, she calls off the wedding and refuses to marry Drew. Lucy has given up believing in dreams coming true.
Drew knows that Lucy is still a virgin, though she doesn't admit to it. She admits to nothing and barely talks to him. He is determined to rescue Lucy from herself-imposed prison and convince her that dreams really do come true and their love is real and worth fighting for.
When Harvey escapes jail and comes gunning for Lucy as the only witness to his murder of the other bride, Drew has to protect his love from being the next victim of a serial killer.
