Somewhere, somehow, during 2019 a strain of coronavirus perked up and announced itself to the world. We all know what happened next, and in March 2020 the UK went into lockdown. A couple of years I had written a book, Cycling Down the Street, (which is quite marvellous, by the way - you would love it, so don't hesitate to buy it) and had wondered ever since then what to do as a follow-up. Every cloud, as they say, has a silver lining, and it was clear that I would have to do something useful during lockdown to distract me murdering my three teenage boys. It seemed clear too that, if I couldn't find something interesting and amusing to say about the extraordinary events that were unfolding, I really should give up trying to write anything ever again. So three months later this book was complete. I hope it is a tiny bit insightful, and I hope it is funny at a time when not many people were laughing. But either way my sons are still alive, so it was definitely worthwhile writing.
