Raina Simpson is a boldly free-spirted Black American graduate student and poet. After four years of stalling, she is given one final academic year to complete her master's thesis or she will not graduate. Unfortunately Raina can't focus on any one thing long enough to pick a topic!

Enter her thesis advisor, the unbearably cocky British-Ghanaian Professor of Poetics, Luke Attah.
